Day 1 :

Arrival and Transfer to Mgahinga / Volcanoes Region

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport or Kigali Airport and meet your guide. You will be transferred to the Virunga Volcanoes region, either in southwestern Uganda or northern Rwanda, depending on your starting point. Enjoy scenic drives through rolling hills, lush tea plantations, and rural villages. Check in at your lodge and relax, preparing for the trekking adventure ahead.

Day 2 :

Mount Muhabura Hike

Begin early with a briefing at the park headquarters. Start your ascent of Mount Muhabura (4,127m). Trek through bamboo forests, montane woodlands, and alpine zones, spotting golden monkeys and birds along the way. Reach the summit to enjoy panoramic views of the Virunga ranges, Lake Edward, and Lake Burera. Descend to the base and return to your lodge for rest.

Day 3 :

Mount Sabinyo Hike

After breakfast, transfer to the trailhead for Mount Sabinyo, known as the “Old Man’s Teeth” due to its jagged peaks. The hike involves moderate to challenging terrain, passing through bamboo forests and volcanic ridges. Reach the summit for incredible views of Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Descend and return to your lodge for overnight stay.

Day 4 :

Transfer to Mount Karisimbi Base

Enjoy breakfast before transferring to the base of Mount Karisimbi, the highest peak in the Virunga range (4,507m). Along the way, take in scenic landscapes and visit local communities if time allows. Arrive at the lodge or mountain base camp, prepare gear, and get a briefing for the next day’s summit hike.

Day 5 :

Mount Karisimbi Summit Hike

Begin a full-day trek to the summit of Mount Karisimbi. The hike is long and physically demanding but extremely rewarding. Pass through bamboo forests, montane vegetation, and alpine meadows. Reach the summit to experience breathtaking views of the entire Virunga range and surrounding lakes. Descend carefully back to the base camp or lodge for well-deserved rest.

Day 6 :

Return to Kigali / Entebbe and Departure

After breakfast, begin your return journey to Kigali or Entebbe. Enjoy scenic stops along the way for photos and lunch. Arrive at your airport or hotel in the late afternoon or evening, marking the conclusion of your 6-day Virunga Volcano hiking adventure.
