After an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Kenya, you will drive to the Rongai Route trailhead near the Kenya–Tanzania border. After completing park registration, begin your trek through farmland and montane forest, where you may spot wildlife such as colobus monkeys. The trail is gentle and scenic, leading to Simba Camp, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, continue trekking through open moorland with expansive views of the Kenyan plains. The trail gradually ascends and offers a peaceful hiking experience with fewer crowds. You will reach Second Cave Camp in the afternoon, where you can relax, enjoy warm meals, and acclimatize while taking in stunning mountain scenery.

Today’s hike becomes slightly steeper as you move closer to the alpine zone. The vegetation becomes sparse, and the landscape opens up with panoramic views of Mawenzi Peak. The trek continues to Kikelewa Camp, located in a sheltered valley, providing a quiet and comfortable environment for rest and acclimatization.

After breakfast, you will climb steadily to Mawenzi Tarn, situated beneath the dramatic spires of Mawenzi Peak. This is one of the most scenic sections of the route and an important acclimatization point. After lunch, the trek continues to Horombo Camp on the Marangu Route, where you will rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit attempt.

You will begin the summit attempt around midnight, trekking slowly toward Gilman’s Point and then continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and taking photos at the summit, descend carefully back to Horombo Camp for rest, dinner, and overnight.

After breakfast, descend through lush rainforest to Marangu Gate, where you will receive your summit certificates. From here, you will be transferred back to Kenya, marking the end of an unforgettable 6-day Kilimanjaro climbing adventure via the Rongai Route.
