3 Days Awash National Park Wildlife Safari | Ethiopia Safari

This 3-day wildlife safari takes you to Awash National Park, one of Ethiopia’s most scenic and wildlife-rich protected areas, located in the Great Rift Valley. Known for its dramatic landscapes, volcanic formations, hot springs, and diverse ecosystems, Awash offers a rewarding safari experience close to Addis Ababa.

The park is home to a variety of wildlife including Beisa oryx, Soemmerring’s gazelle, kudu, warthog, olive baboon, and colobus monkeys. Awash is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 450 recorded bird species, such as the Secretary Bird, Kori Bustard, Abyssinian Roller, ostriches, and numerous raptors.

During the safari, you will enjoy guided game drives, walks near the Awash Falls, and visits to the park’s natural hot springs, surrounded by acacia woodlands and open savannah. The journey also offers opportunities to experience the culture and landscapes of the Afar region.

Day 1 :

Addis Ababa – Awash National Park

Depart Addis Ababa in the morning and drive east through the Great Rift Valley toward Awash National Park. En route, enjoy scenic views of volcanic landscapes, lakes, and escarpments. Arrive at Awash National Park in the afternoon and check in at your lodge.

Later, enjoy your first game drive in the park, exploring acacia woodland and open grassland areas in search of wildlife.
Wildlife highlights: Beisa oryx, Soemmerring’s gazelle, kudu, warthog, olive baboon.
Birdlife: Abyssinian Roller, Secretary Bird, ostrich, raptors.

Day 2 :

Full Day Awash National Park Exploration

After an early breakfast, spend a full day exploring Awash National Park with morning and afternoon game drives. Visit the scenic Awash Falls, where the Awash River plunges into a dramatic gorge.

In the afternoon, explore the park’s hot springs and riverine forest areas, offering excellent opportunities for birdwatching and photography.
Wildlife & bird highlights: Kori Bustard, colobus monkey, vervet monkey, crocodiles, and a wide variety of water and savannah birds.
Overnight: Lodge or campsite near Awash National Park.

Day 3 :

Morning Game Drive – Return to Addis Ababa

Enjoy an early morning game drive, when wildlife is most active. After breakfast, begin the return journey to Addis Ababa, stopping along the way for scenic views and photos. Arrive in Addis Ababa in the late afternoon, marking the end of the safari.
