The Ultimate 2026 Kilimanjaro Marathon & Marangu Route Summit Tour is a combined adventure-travel experience that brings together two of Tanzania’s most iconic challenges into one seamless journey. First, you’ll take part in the famous Kilimanjaro Marathon in Moshi, where you can choose from a full marathon, half marathon, or fun run and race against the backdrop of Africa’s highest peak with full support and race-day logistics. Right after the run, your focus shifts from running to trekking as you begin a **6-day guided climb up Mount Kilimanjaro via the classic Marangu Route, the oldest, most well-established trail on the mountain. This route is sometimes called the “Coca-Cola Route” and is known for its gradual ascent through rainforest, heath and moorland, and alpine desert zones, with overnight stays in mountain huts instead of tents. Over six days you’ll be supported by professional guides and porters as you ascend step-by-step to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) — Africa’s highest point — to watch the sunrise and then descend back down.

Day 1 :

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (2,700 m)

After breakfast in Moshi, transfer to Marangu Gate for registration with the national park authorities. Begin trekking through dense rainforest filled with birds and monkeys. The trail is gentle and well-maintained.

Overnight: Mandara Hut

Day 2 :

Mandara Hut → Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

Leave the rainforest behind and enter heath and moorland vegetation. Enjoy open views and, on clear days, spectacular sights of Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak.

Day 3 :

Horombo Hut → Kibo Hut (4,700 m)

Today’s trek crosses the “Saddle,” a vast alpine desert between Mawenzi and Kibo. The landscape becomes dramatic and barren as you approach Kibo Hut.

Overnight: Kibo Hut

Early dinner and rest before the midnight summit attempt

Day 4 :

Kibo Hut → Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) → Horombo Hut

Around midnight, begin the steep ascent by headlamp toward Gilman's Point on the crater rim, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Reach the summit at sunrise — an unforgettable achievement. After photos and celebration, descend back to Horombo Hut for overnight rest.

Day 5 :

Horombo Hut → Marangu Gate → Moshi

Descend through moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate. Receive your official summit certificate before transferring back to Moshi for celebration and rest.
