3 Days Mount Meru Trekking

Your adventure begins early with a pickup from your Arusha hotel. You’ll drive to the Momella Gate of Arusha National Park, where you meet your professional guide and armed ranger before starting the hike. The trail initially passes through open grasslands and coffee plantations, gradually entering lush montane forest. Along the way, you may spot colobus monkeys, baboons, giraffes, and various bird species. After a scenic picnic lunch on the trail, continue hiking through the forested slopes with occasional viewpoints overlooking Mount Meru’s crater and surrounding landscapes. By late afternoon, you’ll reach Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m), your overnight stop, where dinner is served and you rest for the next day’s climb.

Start your day with an early breakfast at Miriakamba Hut before continuing your trek. The trail gradually ascends through montane forest and bamboo zones, giving way to alpine moorlands as you gain altitude. Along the way, you’ll pass scenic viewpoints overlooking Mount Meru’s crater and the surrounding plains. Wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and monkeys may be spotted in the lower sections of the trail. After a picnic lunch, continue the climb toward Saddle Hut (3,500 m), located near the base of the ash cone. Enjoy spectacular views of the ash cone and, on clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. Dinner and overnight stay at Saddle Hut prepare you for the summit attempt or optional trekking on Day 3.

Wake up early for a pre-dawn breakfast at Saddle Hut to prepare for the summit attempt. Begin your ascent through the alpine moorlands toward the summit of Mount Meru (4,566 m). The climb is moderately challenging, but rewarding with panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including Mount Kilimanjaro, Meru’s ash cone, and the Arusha plains below. After reaching the summit and taking in the breathtaking scenery, begin your descent back to Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m) for a rest and lunch. From there, continue descending to Momella Gate, where your driver will be waiting to transfer you back to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon and concluding your 3-day trekking adventure.
